The New Orleans International Piano Competition

29th Edition | July 13-20, 2024

The goal of the competition is to provide opportunities for the most gifted and communicative musicians to further their careers and to offer to the community an opportunity to discover the world’s finest pianistic talents. To this end, the New Orleans International Piano Competition (NOIPC) will be held in conjunction with the annual summer New Orleans Piano Institute and Keyboard Festival, both hosted by the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans.

Applications will be available on January 1, 2024, at app.getacceptd.com/noipc. The application deadline is APRIL 7, 2024. The 12 semifinalists invited to New Orleans to compete in the NOIPC will be announced by May 20, 2022. There is no age restriction for applicants.

  • $15,000 ($5,000 cash award, $10,000 performance fees*)

*Performance engagements and their associated fees are offered the winners of the competition in good faith at the time of the competition by the auspices concerned. Final approval of artists, dates, and repertoire rests with artistic and administrative directors. The Musical Arts Society of New Orleans retains the right to rescind any and all performance engagements for any of (but not limited to) the following reasons:
1) Failure to honor the contracted date for the performance
2) Failure to represent the New Orleans International Piano Competition in the professional manner expected of its winner

Guidelines and Rules

Guidelines

The following materials must be submitted online at getacceptd.com/noipc:

  • Nonrefundable application fee of $175 submitted in US dollars via credit card only.
  • Video files of approximately 30 minutes. Videos should be of the highest possible quality. Upload each selection as a separate file. No DVDs or CDs will be accepted. Only solo repertoire will be accepted; no orchestral or chamber performance will be accepted.

Information in the official competition/festival program booklet will be drawn from the material you provide. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

 

Competition Rules

  • Previous First Prize winners are not eligible to compete again.
  • Applicants who fall into one of the following categories are not eligible to compete in the New Orleans International Piano Competition:

    • has studied as a private student or student at a University School of Music or Conservatory in the past two years with any member of the 2024 Competitor Selection Jury or the 2024 Competition Jury as their primary teacher (excluding master classes, summer programs and festivals).

    • has been coached by a member of either of the 2024 Juries in preparation for the 2024 New Orleans International Piano Competition. 

Repertoire Requirements

Recorded/Preliminary Round
Any solo piano repertoire selected by the competitor, approximately 30 minutes in length. Individual movements of sonatas are acceptable in this round only. Repertoire from the Recorded/Preliminary round may be repeated in either Semifinal Rounds I or II or the Final Round as long as it meets the requirements of those rounds.

Semifinal Round I
A memorized public recital, not to exceed thirty-five minutes in
length, consisting of works chosen by the competitor. All twelve
semifinalists will advance to Semifinal Round II.

Semifinal Round II
A memorized public recital, not to exceed twenty minutes in length, consisting of works chosen by the competitor which have not been used in Semifinal Round I. Three contestants will be chosen to advance to the Final Round.

Final Round
A memorized public recital, not to exceed fifty minutes in length,
consisting of works not performed by the competitor in the Semifinal Rounds.
