About the Artist

Praised for her captivating artistry, Ukrainian-born Liliia Oliinyk is equally skilled in solo and collaborative piano. She is a laureate of numerous regional and national competitions, including the National Bugayevsky Piano Competition in Ukraine. Liliia holds a Master of Music Arts Degree from the University of New Orleans and a Doctor of Music Arts Degree with a concentration in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, LA. Over the course of more than twenty years she has formally studied under several internationally renowned musicians, including Valentina Gerasimenko, Tatiana Sivtsova, Efym Vallerstein, Robin H. Williams, Ana Maria Otamendi, and Willis Delony.

As an educator, Liliia was a co-director of the 2021-2022 Technique Intensive for the Collaborative Piano Institute at LSU where she presented lectures and masterclasses on various aspects of piano technique and taught one-on-one lessons addressing the most challenging areas of mainstream collaborative piano literature. She enjoys giving masterclasses and group lessons and is passionate about helping young musicians overcome common pitfalls, like muscle tension and stage fright. Currently, Liliia serves as Artist Faculty and collaborative pianist for the Classical Vocal department at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA).

As a recitalist, Liliia has performed in many concerts, festivals, and masterclasses across the US and Europe – including the Orvieto Music Festival in Orvieto, Italy – and has received coaching from Alexander Bonduriansky, Alan Chow, Nyela Basney, and Martin Katz. She has served as a guest collaborative pianist at Loyola University, Tulane University, University of New Orleans (UNO), and Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in Hammond, LA. Liliia’s most recent collaborations include guest recitals with soprano Grace McCrary (SLU), the UNO Music Excursion Series with flutist Sarah Schettler, the New Orleans Concert Band under the direction of Dr. Charles Taylor, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Chamber Concert Series with violinist Zorica Dimova and cellist Jeanne Jaubert.

Driven by compassion for all those affected by the war in her home country of Ukraine and a belief in the power of music to heal and inspire, Liliia is an avid advocate of programming and showcasing underrepresented masterpieces of piano music written by Ukrainian composers. Liliia believes these pieces deserve to be performed on concert stages around the world.

This concert is presented with support from the Thistlewood Foundation.
