Ethan Mihaescu performs with the New Orleans Civic Symphony


Ethan Mihaescu, winner of the 2025 New Orleans Piano Institute Concerto Competition, will perform the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 11

Ethan Mihaescu is fourteen and in ninth grade at the Roeper School in Birmingham, Michigan.

Ethan was a National Finalist and Chopin Foundation Award winner three consecutive years at the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Junior Piano Competitions. Ethan also came in second place in 2023.  

At age 9, Ethan was one of six finalists in his first international competition with the 2020 Steinway International Virtual Competition. In 2024, he was the youngest of six in his division at the inaugural Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition. He was also a semi-finalist of the Kaufman Music Center 2024 International Youth Piano Competition. 

In 2023, Ethan was a featured soloist of a prestigious Pro Musica of Detroit concert series and was invited as a concerto soloist with the Grosse Pointe Symphony in 2025. Ethan also enjoys performing collaboratively with vocalists of the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit. Additionally, Ethan has performed chamber music with accomplished young instrumentalists of Metro Detroit as the piano scholar of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic Youth Ensemble. 

In the summer of 2025, Ethan was honored to win both the solo and concerto competitions of the New Orleans Piano Institute, resulting in his performance today. Additionally, in August of 2025, Ethan was one of a select few from across the country to receive a scholarship from the Chopin Foundation of the United States. 

In addition to being guided by his father, a classically trained singer, Ethan studies with pianist Catherine Rollin.

The New Orleans Piano Institute Concerto Competition, sponsored by Steinway Gallery of New Orleans and the Steinway Society of New Orleans, is part of the annual New Orleans Piano Institute (NOPI) and Keyboard Festival.
